One Secret to a Working Mom's Success: Keep Standing

Me, standing in Barbados Those of us who live our lives out loud on the internet subject ourselves to scrutiny. Some comment, "Nobody's life is perfect. These posts must be fake," Those making those comments might even be close to us because they "know our business" and they whisper and gossip and say, "she's so fake".  To those who may read my blog and make such comments, (the trolls) know that I hear you, see you, and completely disagree.

A Peek Into the Life of a Mommy Blogger: When Halloween Finally Came to Pittsburgh

On Saturday night Halloween finally came to Pittsburgh on Saturday night. Because of the rain and fear that accompanied Hurricane Sandy on October 31st , the City of Pittsburgh postponed trick-or-treating until Saturday, November 3rd.
Andre is committed to ensuring that our daughter fully experience American traditions. So, we went trick-or-treating. I like traditions too, but I was tired that night and probably would have passed without guilt. Our daughter is two. I don’t think that she would have even remembered missing trick-or-treating.
However, since her daddy is the cool, fun one, we went trick-or-treating.

We Made Some Great Halloween Memories

Our journey to the homes was kind of funny. The toddler was more interested in the pile of leaves she encountered along the way. She wanted to pick them up and throw them and jump in them. When we interfered with her playing, she cried.  Again, since I don’t think that she would have remembered missing trick-or-treating, I was content to let her play in the leaves. Also, I secretly thought I’d get home faster too. Don’t judge me.

However, since her daddy is committed to finishing what we start, he picked her up and started walking towards the homes. She cried. We were quite a sight. A big witch, a crying little witch, and “Vacation” Zorro walking through the park. (Look at the photo below and see if you can see why the costume was called “Vacation” Zorro.)
Eventually, we arrived at the homes. Even though the toddler never managed to utter “trick-or-treat” she did enjoy walking up to the home and holding her bag up to get candy.  We went to about twenty homes. She walked some, was carried some, and eventually just wanted to go home. And so we did.

 The toddler learning to trick-or-treat.

The toddler with our neighbor, the cutest zombie ever! Our little witch was all out of smiles at that point.

It took my kids a few years until they started to "get" the idea of trick-or-treat. I think 4 was the magic year for my twins.

You guys look GREAT all dressed up! Love it!
